IA Sample Indexes

DataBook indexes are located in the rear of each DataBook …
Each DataBook features several helpful indexes designed to help nonprofit organizations quickly identify which foundations are most likely to fund their cause. Knowing how to use these indexes will also save development staff time as they review the DataBook looking for appropriate funding sources. Below is a list of all of the DataBook indexes with a brief summary of each index.
Newly established foundations:
This index shows newly established Iowa foundations. For each foundation listed the following information is shown: foundation name, address, phone number when known, EIN, fiscal year of the data shown, asset amount, and the page number of the foundation’s profile in the DataBook or an explanation of why the foundation was not profiled.
New foundation profiles:
This index lists the foundations not profiled in the prior edition of the DataBook. The index shows the foundation name, foundation asset amount, and the page number of the foundation’s profile in the DataBook.
Asset rankings of profiled foundations:
This index lists each of the foundations profiled in the DataBook and ranks them according to asset size. The index shows the foundation’s assets ranking as compared to the assets of the other profiled foundations, the foundation name, fiscal year of the data shown, foundation asset amount, and the total of grants made by the foundation.
Grants rankings of profiled foundations:
This index lists each of the foundations profiled in the DataBook and ranks them according to the total dollar amount of the grants each awarded. The index shows the foundation’s grants ranking as compared to the grants made by the other profiled foundations, the foundation name, fiscal year of the data shown, foundation asset amount, and the total of grants made by the foundation.
Large grants & capital grants:
These two indexes list each grant of $200,000 or more made by the profiled foundations, and which foundations made grants for capital purposes. The Grants of $200,000 and Greater Indexshows the foundation name, the name of the grant recipient organization, the amount of the grant, plus indicators that show if the grant was for capital purposes, if the grant recipient received a grant from the profiled foundation in prior editions of the DataBook and if the foundation profile is new for the DataBook edition in use. The Capital Grants Index shows which of the profiled foundations made grants for capital purposes and lists each foundation’s name, the total number of capital grants the foundation made and the total dollar amount of their capital grants. (In addition to the Capital Grants index, every grant in the DataBook that was identified as a capital grant is a tagged with a Hammer/Wrench symbol.)

The information is shown in calendar format by deadline date and shows the foundation name, DataBook page number and the text from the deadline entry included in the foundation’s profile. The calendar is prefaced with a list of those profiled foundations which indicated “None” for deadlines and those foundations with deadline statements that were non-specific (e.g. several times a year or periodically).
